The resilience and tenacity of the Grace Christian School community has once again been displayed as the global pandemic of Covid-19 has forced us to close our physical doors and move to a full online-learning platform for all students.  Despite passing through days of uncertainty in our province, country, and world, the GCS community has been able to help to instill some normalcy in our students’ lives.  Teachers have worked tirelessly in preparing, converting, and teaching curriculum to students.

Students from Junior Kindergarten through to Grade 12 have completed over one full month of learning using various online platforms and have successfully demonstrated mastery level skills in various content areas. We are proud of how our students have embraced the challenge and engaged in daily learning.

Our elementary students continue to use Seesaw to read, listen, post, record, reply, and engage with one another in various subjects, with over 10,000 posts made so far.  Birthdays have been celebrated, art pieces have been shared, words have been prayed, and many special words of encouragement have been given by the teachers and the students to each other.

Our junior high and senior high students have connected through collaborative Google Classroom platforms, Moodle posts, and even group Zoom video-conferencing.  While some high school courses were previously online, every grade 7-12 course is now being delivered online through one of our online platforms. This includes 7 fully interactive math classes and 32 Moodle courses.

In addition to our academic programming, the Grace Christian School community has continued to emphasize the importance of health and wellness.  Collectively, our students have participated in approximately 800 hours of physical activity throughout the past month.  We have also strengthened our sense of community and school spirit by encouraging our staff and students to participate in various online activities through social media.  This includes unique themed dress-up days, a look back at photos of special school memories, and thankful Thursday videos to name a few.

We are confident that in God’s timing, and according to His plan, we will be back together in our beautiful school building.  Until then, we may be apart, but we will remain connected and learning will continue to take place.
