A Great Start

It has been such a wonderful first couple days back in school. I’m excited to see how the Grade 5 students learn and grow together as the year progresses. Please take note of the following announcements for this week, and don’t forget to subscribe to this weekly blog post to stay up to date with what’s going on at GCS.

Your Child’s Teachers

As your child’s lead teacher, I will be responsible for teaching your child Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Phys. Ed. Your child will be blessed to have multiple teachers throughout the week for various content areas. Each of the following teachers can be contacted about their individual classes. You can find a list of teacher contact information on the GCS website here https://www.gcspei.ca/gcs-team/

  • Mrs. Smylie (French)
  • Mrs. Wilting (Music)
  • Mrs. McGonnell (Bible)
  • Mrs. MacNeill (Science)
  • Mrs. Bouter (Art)
  • Mrs. Biech (Library)

Daily Schedule

A copy of your child’s weekly schedule has been sent home in your child’s agenda. Please ensure that your child is coming prepared for their scheduled classes. As we kick off our first full week of classes at GCS, we are also preparing to host a number of events. Please take note of the following events occurring throughout this week:

Meet the Teacher

This coming Monday, GCS will be hosting a Meet the Teacher time from 3:00-4:00pm.  This is a time for parents that are new to the school to meet their child(ren)’s teacher(s) or for returning parents to meet any new teachers.  Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles until 3:00pm and then come into GCS through the main school doors; you will fill out a health questionnaire form and be directed to your child(ren)’s teacher’s location.  While in GCS, parents are required to wear a non-medical mask at all times. I look forward to meeting you if you decide to come that evening.

Items to Bring

In Art class this week, students will be creating tie dye shirts. Mrs. Bouter has asked students to bring in a plain white shirt for this activity.

Students will be using a variety of educational accounts on their assigned Chromebooks this year. Sometimes there are instructional videos to go along with the curriculum. Students are asked to bring a set of headphones to school this week so they can watch and listen to these videos without distracting other students.

Masks

Students have been doing a wonderful job of following new procedures and instructions set out this year. Just a reminder that students are to bring a clean mask to school each morning and bring home their used one at the end of the day to be washed.

Assignments and Assessments

  • Wednesday – Math Quiz 1
  • Thursday – Spelling List 1 Quiz

That is all for now. Again, be sure to check back in for weekly updates.
