We managed to get four days under our belts! Although our current situation is not one that any of us would have chosen (and certainly not this early in the school year), we can rest in the assurance that God is with us throughout everything!

Due to having been in class for only a very short time, students have not yet had much of a chance to dive deeply into their lessons, and most likely do not have their books at home with them. Therefore, the following highlights what we are strongly encouraging our students to do during these three days at home:

1) Math: Students who are comfortable with our online Mathletics program are strongly encouraged to sign-in and to practice some of their foundational math skills.  Sign in using your student account:  https://www.mathletics.com/ca/.  Certain activities will be assigned by me, and these should be completed before moving on to other activities of the student’s choice. Students have their login information taped to the inside of their agenda. If your child did not bring his/her agenda home for the weekend, please contact me (asmylie@gcspei.ca) and I will send you that information.

2) Spelling: Students in Grades 3 (except ESL students) should begin to study for this week’s Spelling & Vocabulary test, which will be held on Friday.  Some students may have taken their Spelling books home over the weekend. For those who have not, here are the words to study this week:

  1. addend
  2. sum
  3. minuend
  4. subtrahend
  5. difference
  6. digit
  7. rounding
  8. school
  9. teacher
  10. friend
  11. recess
  12. before

Vocabulary

  1. represent: to stand for
  2. timid: shy
  3. declare: to say, to make known

3) Reading Schedules: Students are strongly encouraged to read for 15 – 20 minutes each day.  Grade level audio books can also be downloaded for your child using Get Epic: https://www.getepic.com/

4) Bible Fun: We encourage all students to take the time to continue learning their assigned Bible verse.  In addition, if your child is looking for an interesting Bible story or devotional, please check out these links below:

We are all praying that this interruption to in-school learning will be brief, and that the dear children who have tested positive will see swift healing. I look forward to seeing all the children again soon!
