Happy New Year, everyone!

Thank you all for the lovely cards and gifts that were given for Christmas!  I appreciate every one of them.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone back in class this week.  Please take note of the following items related to our grade one and two class this week:

Dressing for the Weather

As we all know, our winter weather can be unpredictable at times. Please ensure that your child comes to school each day fully equipped for outdoor play. “Must have” items include: A warm winter snow suit (this includes snow pants), winter boots, mittens/gloves (an extra pair or two tucked away in the school bag are strongly recommended), and a winter hat. A neck warmer or scarf are also very useful for keeping snow from going into jackets, and an extra pair or two of socks is not a bad idea, either! We stay indoors when it is raining, when the playground is too covered in ice, and when it is colder than -20 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, out we go for some much needed fresh air and movement.

Show and Tell:

On Thursday this week, Grade one and two will have a show and tell.   Students can bring in one item they received for Christmas, or share about one thing they did with family or friends over the holidays.  If it is an item that cannot be brought in to school, please send a picture to jbarton@gcspei.ca and I can display it  during their presentation.   Grade one students will present on Thursday morning, and Grade two students will present on Thursday afternoon.  Please help your child be prepared to share three things about the items or what they did, and why the chose this item or thing to show.

Spelling Lists Resume

We took a little break from Spelling lists in the week leading up to our Christmas Break. We will resume this week with List 13 in Grade 2, and we will redo List #9 in Grade One.

This Week’s Assessments

There will be no Math assessment this week as we will be working our way back into a routine. Students who may have missed an assessment before the holidays should expect to get caught up this week.

Tuesday, January 3rd – First day of classes for 2023
Monday, January 30th to Thursday, February 2nd – Junior/Senior High School Midterm Examination Week
