Greetings! I hope everyone has enjoyed their long weekend. I am very thankful for each of you that came in to meet with me. Developing communication with each of you is a huge part in making sure that your child is successful. With that being said, a huge part of what I will be communicating to you will happen through this blog. If you have not subscribed yet, plug in your information to the news sign up on the right side of this blog. As we start our third quarter I’d like to remind you that our day begins promptly at 9. When students arrive late they miss morning routines and work and have to be caught up during the day. Please pay special attention to our Love of Reading Week schedule below.

Love Of Reading Activities

Students have been provided an Olympic Reading Challenge from Mrs. Biech, and are competing for class medals.  Please encourage your child to invest time each day discovering the joy of learning through reading!

Monday: Dress Up Day
Throughout the following weeks each Elementary classroom will be assigned two countries to follow.  Students are encouraged come dressed in their teams colors on Monday. Each student will receive their Olympic pass (bookmark) to the Olympic Games.  This bookmark can be colored to earn a gold medal for the class. Grade 1 and 2 have been given the United States and Austria as our teams. Austria’s colors are red and white and the United States colors are red, white, and blue.

Tuesday: Favorite Books

Students are encouraged to bring a favorite book to enjoy during the day to share with the class.

Wednesday:  Red & White Day

Not only will be celebrate Valentines Day by wearing the colors red and white, we will also be celebrating our national pride and cheering on our Canadian Olympians. For our Valentines Day party, we have had enough parents sign up for cupcakes so we encourage anyone who has not returned the form to fill in the surprise with something of your choice (cookies, chips, fruit etc.).

Thursday: Character Dress Up Day

Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite book character or an Olympic athlete.

Young Writers Author Release Forms

We are excited to have learned that many of our students from GCS have been chosen to become published authors.  Each of the students selected have been provided a release form for parents to sign.  If your form is lost but you would still like to have your student’s work published, then please send an email to Ms. Huizing (khuizing@gcspei.ca) so that she can get a new form ready and waiting for you in your student’s classroom for Monday AM.
