Once again, it has been a fantastic week of learning.  I have especially enjoyed watching my students consider the true sacrifices made on the behalf of all Canadians during World War One. We have started studying WWI in History class. The students were asked to ponder what it would have meant for young boys and girls their age to have lived through this experience. Upon entering the classroom last week, students were surprised to see the date on the board- February 1916.  They opened the letter sitting on their desk, only to be asked to respond to the lieutenant requesting their help to recruit Canadian men to join the war efforts in Europe. Their letters were amazing! The students have immersed themselves in life inside the trenches by completing interactive digital stories.  I look forward to reading their final assignments- letters home to their family describing the conditions from the front-lines of battle.

To help you stay up-to-date, please take note of the following information about the week ahead:

Cross Country Meet

We welcome parents to join us in cheering on our elementary students THIS Wednesday, October 4th, at the Terry Fox Centre in Cornwall. Students are asked to wear any GCS t-shirt, pack a great pair of running shoes, grab a healthy snack, and fill a water bottle!  We will be leaving the school by bus at 9AM, and will return to school by noon. GO KNIGHTS GO!

PD Day- No Classes

As important as it is for your children to be learning and growing academically, so to is the case for us teachers.  On Friday, October 6th, students will not have classes as the teachers from GCS participate in a professional development day.

Detour & Construction

The Government of PEI has issued an update on the status of the construction at the Capital Drive intersection (by the Esso/Tim Hortons near the school).  Although the work was due to be completed today, they are now stating that the earliest that the intersection will be open to traffic is October 4 or 5.  Please continue to use the alternate routes that you’ve been using to get to school each day.  We will notify you when construction is complete and the intersection can be used again.
