Hello GCS Grade 6 Family!

Even though it was a 4-day week this week, we worked hard in the Grade 6 classroom.

Monday morning brought Grades 3-6 to a cross country meet in Cornwall. Approximately 800 students competed in different age and gender categories. I was impressed with the effort and drive the Grade 6 students had in completing their 2km run. 2km is no easy feat! Ethan O’Connor from our Grade 6 class will be moving on to Provincials after qualifying with his 11th place finish (out of approx. 200) in the Novice Boys category. We look forward to cheering him on!

Some reminders for the Grade 6 students:

Social Studies:

Our Social Studies Government Scrapbook Assignment is due on October 25th. This represents a large portion of their quarterly grade.

No Class on Monday:

Just a reminder that Monday, Oct. 14th, is a Canadian holiday. We will not have classes. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 15th at 9:00 AM.

Science & Technology Week:

It’s that time of year again when staff and students of GCS celebrate our Creator and the wonder of science! We have lots of activities planned for next week, including a virtual dementia simulation, robotics challenges, the planting of hydroponic gardens, and boat building labs. Please note that Tuesday, October 15th is Dress like a STEAM Professional Day (STEAM standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). That means that your child can come to school dressed as a person in any occupation that would use these disciplines. It is sure to be a fun-filled week of learning.

Important Dates

October 14 – Thanksgiving (No Classes)

Oct 15 – 18 – Science & Technology Week

Oct 24 – 25 – ACSI Teachers Conference (No Classes)

I will be praying for the Grade 6 families this Thanksgiving weekend. It is my prayer that you may rest this weekend and be able to reflect on all that God has blessed you with.

Grateful with you!

Mr. Olsen
