Grade 5 families,

Only 1 week left in the school year! Many of you are aware that I will not be returning to GCS next year. Mrs. Wood and I will be moving to Sussex, NB to attend Crandall University in Moncton. It has been a great year to end my time at GCS, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to teach your children. In Math last week, students finished calculations on their Theme Park Projects. In Language Arts we designed posters to advertise our theme parks and wrote letters to the up and coming grade 5 class. In Social Studies students reviewed for their final Test on the Early Modern Era, Industrial Revolution, and Information Age. The Grade 5 class also has the opportunity to plan the elementary school closing event. See below for more details.

Water Day

As a celebration of the end of the school year, students in grades 4-6 will enjoy a wet and wild afternoon of fun on Monday, June 14th. We will play classic water games such as Water Balloon Toss, Dodge-Sponge, and Duck Duck Dunk, and will even have a Slip and Slide. Students are asked to come prepared with swimwear and a towel. As we are still abiding by the school dress code, boys are asked to wear a t-shirt with their swim shorts and girls will need to cover their bathing suits with a t-shirt and shorts. Students may also take sunscreen if they tend to burn and watershoes or sandals that they do not mind getting wet if they do not want to run barefoot through the grass. Please note that students will not be allowed back into the school if they are wet and will be returning home on the soggy side.

Year-End School Closing Event

The Grade 5 class has been working hard the past couple of weeks planning a year-end carnival for the elementary students at GCS. On June 18th, we will need to set up for the event before school. Grade 5 students are asked to be at the school by 8:30am. Also, to help cover some of the costs involved with the event, we are asking each elementary student to bring in $2.00 before June 18th. This will go towards snacks, drinks, door prizes, and balloons. After gathering in the chapel for school closing remarks from Mrs. MacNeill, students will head outside to our back field for carnivals games and field games. Students can look forward to balloon games, ring toss, face painting, beanbag toss, various tag games, a candy jar count guessing game, and door prizes! If the weather is not suitable for outdoor activities, we have a modified plan to run indoors. The event will finish at 11:30am in time for parents to pick up their children at 11:45am. We are looking forward to an amazing day as we close out the 2020-2021 school year.

Dates to Remember:

  • Tuesday, June 15 – Kindergarten Graduation at 6:30pm (Details TBD)
