After an extended Spring Break I am hopeful to see some smiling faces tomorrow as we head back to the classroom- both parents and students!  As we gear up for a busy 3-day week, please take note of the following announcements:

Heritage Fair:

Students’ final Heritage Fair projects are due this Friday, April 6th.  This includes their backboard, research paper, and oral presentation.  Our school Heritage Fair will be held on Monday, April 9th.  Students will present their project to a selection of judges and a number will be selected to represent GCS at the Provincial Heritage Fair in May.  Students are strongly encouraged to leave their projects at school over the weekend, however if they wish to take their projects home to prepare over the weekend, they are most welcome to take them back home.  Parents are encouraged to join us next Monday at 2:30 PM to view the students’ projects and participate in the awards ceremony.

Project Based Learning Project:

I am sure many of you have heard the buzz of excitement over our next big project in Grade 5/6.   Students have been challenged to critically consider real-world issues and identify possible solutions through collaboration and innovation. Throughout this collaborative project, students will explore the realities of today’s aging population. Participation in a virtual dementia tour that simulated the symptoms of age-related Alzheimer’s and dementia  helped students identify and empathize with the needs and behaviours of people living with dementia. Students will now design an innovative product that incorporates various technological and scientific principles to address the challenges previously identified and deliver a business pitch of their product.

While this is a science-led project, project-specific learning will also take place in Reading, Writing, Art, Bible, Math, and Canadian Studies classes.  Students will need to accumulate learning from all classes and apply it to their final project in order to meet all learning objectives. For more details about this in-class project, please see your child’s full project outline.

A Knight To Remember Celebration:
