Hello parents!

We are off to a great start this school year! I am enjoying getting to know your children, with all their unique personalities and God-given gifts.

Meet the Teacher

Tomorrow, GCS will be hosting a Meet the Teacher time from 3:00-4:00pm.  This is a time for parents that are new to the school to meet their child(ren)’s teacher(s) or for returning parents to meet any new teachers.

Please note that this year Grade four students have a variety of teachers for their different courses:

  • Math, Social Studies, Digital Literacy, Genius Hour, Art, and Arts Exploration with Mrs. Bouter
  • Language Arts (including Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Grammar) with Mrs. Biech
  • Bible with Mrs. McGonnell
  • Science with Mrs. MacNeill
  • Music with Mrs. Wilting
  • Gym and French with Mrs. Laird

Schedule

A copy of your child’s weekly schedule has been sent home in your child’s agenda. Please ensure that your child is coming prepared for their scheduled classes.

Homework

Although many class assignments are completed throughout the day in class, there are several items that students should be spending time on each night.  These homework items include: any math corrections, spelling & vocabulary review, reading for a minimum of 15 minutes, and Bible memory work.

Language Arts – A Note from Mrs. Biech

Each week, students will be given a new list of spelling words to learn and practice in preparation for the spelling quiz on Fridays.  Please have your child take time each evening to work through these lists of words and vocabulary to further develop his/her spelling abilities.

Reading each day is also important for increasing student vocabulary and models good writing.  Students are asked to spend 15 minutes reading at home each day.  This will be a mix of student choice and assigned passages throughout the year.  This week, students are encouraged to read what they enjoy.

Upcoming Tests and Quizzes

  • Thursday, September 15 – Grammar Quiz
  • Friday, September 16 – Spelling Quiz 1

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the week, please do not hesitate to email me at mbouter@gcspei.ca

Sincerely,

Mrs. Bouter
