Hello GCS families,

We had an interesting week last week with only two days in class. We are, however, thankful that we can be back in school and looking forward to covering a lot of material before we reach March Break! In Math, we will be multiplying fractions and looking at some mental math strategies using Mathletics. In Social Studies we will hopefully be finishing our class presentation on India. And in Digital Literacy, we will continue to look at the pros and cons of digital technology with a discussion about technology addiction. Keep reading to find out what else is planned for the coming week.

Mathletics March Madness – Week 1 Update

The Mathletics March Madness competition is off to a great start! Students are reminded that there will be a prize for the student in each grade who earns the most points as well as a pizza party for the class who earns the most average points. Do you want to know who is in the lead? Check out the average points (as of Friday afternoon) below!

  • Grade 1 – 1,833
  • Grade 2 – 2,697
  • Grade 3 – 3,640
  • Grade 4 – 2,613
  • Grade 5 – 3,205
  • Grade 6 – 1,686

Congratulations to Mrs. Smylie’s grade 3 students who are currently in the lead! However, this is just the beginning and anything can happen! We would love to see students growing and improving in their math skills throughout this competition. Go Mathletes!

Winter Carnival Theme Days

Grace Christian School Winter Carnival is March 8th to 12th.

Show your school spirit and join in the fun by participating in our theme days! Remember that modest, clean, neat and appropriate is always the rule. Winter Carnival is organized by our GCS Student Council.

Monday: Spring Picture Day (No dress-up day)

Tuesday: Decade Day – Time travel through fashion today! Dress as a student from the groovy sixties, the disco seventies or the preppie eighties, or be creative and choose another era. You can check out Pinterest for some creative ideas.

Wednesday: Tacky Tourist Day – We can’t travel or go away for March Break this year but today you can dress up as though you are on your way to our favourite travel destination! Wear your Hawaiian shirts and white socks with sandals or your favourite souvenir shirt – use your imagination!

Thursday: Science Fair Day (Gr. 5 – 9) (No dress-up day)

Friday: PJ Day AND Reading Forts – To end-off Winter Carnival week, wear your pajamas to school, but don’t forget to wake up! For Grade 4 only, we will be celebrating earning our “I Like Its” by taking in blankets, pillows, flashlights, and books to school to construct our very own Reading Forts! Students will have some time in the afternoon to construct a fort and then be able to cozy up with a book to read.
