There is always something happening at GCS, so here are just a few announcements to keep you informed about the weeks ahead:

Cool Days & Warmer Clothing:

Please remember that as the cooler days of autumn arrive, students should come prepared with a light coat or sweater for outdoors. Students may also wish to have a sweater for class, as jackets are not permitted inside the classroom.

Elementary Cross-Country Event:

Students in grades 3-6 will be participating in an upcoming Cross Country Meet on Monday, October 7th.  We welcome parents to join us in cheering on our students as they compete. Grades 3-4 will run the 1.5 km race while grades 5-6 will run 2 km. Students are asked to come prepared with running shoes, a GCS T-shirt, layers of clothing (in case it is cold), and sunscreen (in case it is hot!). Also, students should pack a healthy snack and water bottle. We will be leaving the school at 9 AM and travelling by bus to the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall. Some parent volunteers would be helpful as we will not all fit on the bus. We will return to school by noon. Additional information will be sent home with your child next week in the form of a permission slip. Please return the form to your child’s homeroom teacher.

PD Day- No Classes

As important as it is for your children to be learning and growing academically, so to is the case for us teachers.  On Friday, October 11th, students will not have classes as the teachers from GCS participate in a professional development day.

A Teacher’s Request:

With the blessing of class sets of Chromebooks, the grade five students have been given account login information for a variety of online educational resources including Mathletics and Typing.com. Some, if not all, of these resources require students to watch instructional videos as they progress through the curriculum. As to prevent unnecessary distractions for other students, I would ask that students bring in a personal set of headphones or earphones with a standard 3.5mm audio connector on Monday.

Grades

With a few weeks now behind us in the school year, there are a variety of grades recorded to track your child’s progress. You can access these grades online through MySchoolManagement. I would encourage you to be checking in periodically. In Math class, I will be sending home the graded quizzes for students to use to prepare for the tests the following week. If there are any concerns you wish to discuss, please send me an email at mwood@gcspei.ca.

Tuesday: Weekly Cursive Assignment due 9am (Jeremiah 29:11)
