Week of Jan. 20 in Grade 1

We are certainly getting our fare share of winter weather lately. Please note that we will have our spelling test (list #9 that was supposed to be on Friday, Jan. 17) on Monday and the new list for next week will be sent home Monday night. If inclement weather means school is cancelled on Monday, we will have the test on Tuesday and will not start a new list for this coming week. This week we will be opening our in-class Super Readers Library. Students will be allowed to borrow 2 books each week. These books are targeted to early readers and will hopefully offer extra practice and reading opportunities at home. Please return these books on Mondays so that students can pick out new books.

PD Day, Weather Permitting

As indicated on our online school year calendar, we have a currently scheduled Professional Development Day Friday, January 31st. However, if school is cancelled throughout that week, this PD Day will be cancelled and we will have classes to allow high school students to have time to complete their exams.  Please watch our social media accounts for any updates regarding this date.

Skating & Skiing For Elementary:

Although an official permission slip outlining all the details of the skating and skiing events for elementary will be sent home with your child in the future, I wanted to take a moment to give you the heads up that we will once again be participating in these activities throughout the months of February and March.

Students are not required to have their own ski gear, nor are they obligated to attend this event.  Elementary students in grades 3 – 6 will ski  twice throughout the winter months at Brookvale Provincial Ski Park and lessons will be provided for students who require them.  More details provided in the future.

Students that wish to participate in skating must have their own skates and helmet.  Students are not obligated to participate, however should they wish to, please make arrangements for them to acquire the proper skating equipment. Elementary students in grades 1 – 6 will skate two times throughout the winter months.

God bless and have a wonderful week!
