Week of May 10, 2021 in Grade 1

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope your families have enjoyed celebrating this weekend. It’s hard to believe, but on our PD day teachers are already discussing end of year routines and events. Please keep up to date with school emails as we navigate these end of year events in light of Covid restrictions (which as we know, can change quickly). We are so thankful to have been able to continue learning in the classroom throughout the year. Our class has grown so much academically, emotionally, and spiritually over this school year. This week students will be learning about British Columbia, paragraph structure, new suffix rules, elements of story (plot, moral, setting), distinguishing alphabetical order in words that start with the same letter, and Picasso.

Homework: Students will complete a sight words page and will be preparing for their spelling test. I will also be sending home an optional (but highly encouraged) game that will help students improve their telling time skills. All that’s needed to play is a dice and the printable that will be sent home.

Tests: Students will have a Phonics test on Wednesday, a Math test Thursday, and a Spelling test on Friday.

Important Dates

  • Thursday, May 20 – Arts Coffeehouse (1:30pm, 3:30pm & 7pm)
  • Monday, May 24 – Victoria Day (No School)
  • Friday, June 18 – School Closing

Have a wonderful week!
