Dear Grade 1 Families,

We had another great week last week. Last week in Enrichment class, students were challenged to design and then build a marble maze in small groups. It’s been fun to watch their creativity and teamwork in action. We’ll be testing out their mazes this week. Students also practiced their spelling list outside with sidewalk chalk and inside in shaving cream. I look forward to more adventures with this great group this week.

Thank you very much for making sure students arrive on time for Chapel and aren’t alone in the hall. We leave the classroom at 9:50 sharp.

Homework: Students will be given one penmanship page (please hand in on Friday).

Gym: for their final unit of gym, our class has been learning elements of creative movement with Mrs. MacDougall. They are practicing a dance piece that will be presented to the elementary the last week of school. In order to memorize the movements, students may practice what they’ve learned at home. The song they will be performing to is “Here With Me” by Gateway Kids Worship.

Spelling Test: Students will have their spelling test on Friday. We will have one more list next week and then finish spelling tests for the year! Yay! It is truly incredible how many words students have learned to spell. Thank you for supporting their learning in this all year.

GCS Arts Festival:  We are pleased to announce that we will be celebrating the Arts program in person this year at our GCS Arts Festival.  Please join us on Thursday, May 26 at 7pm. The students in grade 7-9 will be performing on stage as individual classes and in a grand finale piece together as a large group. The Knights Jazz band will also be performing. In addition to this performance, the GCS Student Art Walk will be displayed for viewing on May 26 and 27 from 2:45pm-3:30pm, and following the performance on May 26. We are excited to announce that our Art Walk will include a selection of student art that can be purchased to support our visual arts program. This is a great way to show support to our amazing artists at GCS from Kindergarten through Grade 12!

GCS Golf Tournament:  There is still time to register for this year’s GCS Annual Golf Challenge being held on Saturday, June 4th at Clyde River Golf Club. Visit https://forms.gle/su6E8FG36VAREDzu6  to register individually or to register your team. All golfers/teams must be registered by Saturday, May 28.

The GCS Gold Tournament is a very important fundraiser for our school. Please spread the word so we can make it a great success.

As always, please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week!
