Dear Families,

We had a great week last week. Our Grade 1 class is very excited about the colouring contest for the 2023 Canada Games Mascot they started last week. Please note that the completed forms along with the already complete colouring submission must be signed and returned tomorrow morning in order to be entered into the contest. This week we will continue to work on adding and subtracting with larger numbers and multiple digits, adding coins, identifying homophones, new special phonics sounds, and will begin learning about the province of Alberta. If you have any old magazines laying around that you would be willing to donate for a Picasso-inspired art project, I would be grateful if you could send them in this week. I’m looking for magazines with lots of faces.

Homework: Students will be sent home with one sight words page and will be preparing for their spelling test on Thursday.

Tests: Students will have a Math test on Tuesday, Phonics test on Wednesday, and their spelling test on Thursday.

World Math Day

This week, students in elementary will test their mathematical speed and accuracy by participating in World Math Day – the world’s largest online math competition! Students are encouraged to brush up on their math skills in preparation of game day by visiting Mathletics and completing activities or challenging their classmates and other children around the world in Live Mathletics competitions. On Wednesday, May 5, students will complete twenty Live Mathletics games during school hours and submit their scores. Let’s see how GCS will rank in a global competition! Come on, mathletes!

 Have a great week!
