Week of November 11 in Grade One

We had a great week. Students enjoyed participating in many Remembrance Day activities. Some students had a very hard time with our spelling test last week. Please ensure you practice even more frequently if you child struggled as these tests will continue to become more challenging. Since we have just started these tests, I have decided to offer a one-time retest this week on Thursday for any student who got under 60%. We have already spent a significant amount of time studying these words in class, so students will be required to practice at home. Your child should have brought their marked test home. Please email me if they did not and I will send you their mark: ebryenton@gcspei.ca. We will not start a new spelling list this week due to the short week.

Important Events and Dates to Remember:

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday evening (November 14) from 6-9pm and Friday

morning (November 15) from 10am-12pm. Although your child has multiple teachers in elementary, it

will be very difficult to schedule conferences with all of them; therefore, we understand if you are able

to meet with only a few of your child’s teachers.

Please be aware that each conference is scheduled for 10 minutes; if you require a longer time or

cannot efficiently schedule a meeting during the two conference days, please contact the me directly to

set up an alternative meeting date/time.

If it is necessary to have your children with you, they are to be under your direct supervision at all times

in the school building. Due to safety considerations and church function reasons, the gym and church

sections of the building are off-limits.

child’s name on it. To help us reduce the need of multiple envelopes throughout the year, please do no

Usborne Literacy Fair

The time has come again for our annual Usborne Literacy Fair. This is a wonderful opportunity to

purchase great books for your children and supporting the school library at the same time. Last year we

received over $600 in free books for our school.

Each student will have a chance this week to look at the books available to order, making wish lists of

some of their favorites. The Literacy Fair will be in the school atrium on Thursday, November 14 from 6-

9 pm and Friday, November 15 from 10am-12pm.

If you are unable to attend the literacy fair but still want to place an order, feel free to send a message

to order at mbiech.ubooks@gmail.com. Here is the link to view the online catalogue and orders sent to

Mrs. Biech.

Operation Christmas Child

The GCS students are hearing stories about how God is using the simple gift of a shoe box to impact

other kids around the world. We are looking forward to blessing thousands of children around the world

with shoe boxes and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Your child has received a shoe box to fill with gifts for a less fortunate child. Need ideas for your kids to

pack? Here is the link of the top 100 things to put in a shoebox, and a list of items that are permitted.

All items must be new. Please make sure that we add $10 to each box to help with the cost of shipping,

if you can.
