Week of Nov. 2 in Grade One

Dear Parents,

It was wonderful to watch each student shine as they shared about the show and tell items they brought to school this week. It’s hard to believe, but this week is our last official week of the first quarter. This week we will be learning more about nickels, counting by 5’s, more phonics special sounds, and will continue to work on our Building a Community Project. As we finish up our unit on community, we are trying to find ways to help others in our community. The class has been working on making cards to send to some of our front-line health care professionals to thank them for their service. If any of you work at the hospital or another healthcare field and would be willing to drop off the finished cards, that would be greatly appreciated.

Homework: this week students will be completing two penmanship pages, one sight words page, and preparing for their spelling test on Friday.

Tests: This week students will have a Letters and Sounds Test on Wednesday, a math test on Thursday, a spelling test on Friday. I have decided to remove the timed math quizzes from this quarters report card. Students will continue to complete these, but will be given more time. It is my hope that as students become more confident with addition and subtraction, we will return to a timed test successfully in the future.
