Hello Grade 3 families,

What a privilege we had this week to be able to have an in-person Remembrance Day Ceremony at GCS. Staff and students gathered to show respect to past and present soldiers. What a humbling experience.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

This Thursday, November 17th, we will be holding our Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences. An email was recently sent to all parents explaining the procedure for signing up for an interview:

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday evening (November 17) for grade JK to 6 parents from 5-7pm and Friday morning (November 18) for Grade 7-12 parents from 9:30am-12pm. As we have done in previous years, we will use SignUp.com, an online web-based platform, for parents registering for conferences with their child’s teachers.  The details are below.

Please remember that these conferences are an important opportunity for parents and teachers to partner together in the student’s academic, social, and emotional success.  Although GCS takes pride in the partnership between parents and teachers, we ask that parents only schedule conferences with teachers should there be something specific they need to discuss with those teachers.  Note that there are a very limited number of conference slots available for each teacher for in-person conferences (10 minute length).  If you wish to schedule a meeting with a teacher outside of these conference times (in-person, via phone, or via a digital platform), please contact the teacher directly to arrange a day/time.

Reminders

  • Only parents who have registered through our Signup.com registration form are able to attend
  • The gym and church sections of the building are off-limits.

Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Campaign)

Our school is participating in Operation Christmas Child once again this year. Every GCS student is encouraged to fill a box with items that can be shared with a child in need in another country. Items that may be placed in the box include: toys, school supplies, non-liquid hygiene items, washcloths, socks, toothbrushes. Please do not include any liquids, food items of any kind, war-related items, or breakable items.

This is the final week for collection, though our target date is Wednesday, Nov.16th (for Chapel). Please be sure to send in your filled shoeboxes (or item that you would like to donate towards filling a shoebox) by then.

Elementary Christmas Production (It’s Getting Close!!):

We are very excited to announce that we are in the beginning stages of preparing our annual Christmas presentation. The elementary students have been reading through scripts and learning songs in class for the last few weeks. This year we will be presenting “Christmas at Bethlehem Gulch” a children’s musical with a western feel about the coming of the Saviour written by Pam Andrews.

We are anticipating a live, in-house, concert as we have done in years past. The musical has an “Old West” theme and we will need a few items brought in for concert dress. All students are required to bring in a pair of dark or light jeans and a multi-coloured plaid shirt. If students have items such as western vests, chaps, boots, kerchiefs, or cowboy hats please add them as they may be used for the main cast. Please refrain from bringing in holsters or plastic guns. Place items in a bag labeled with your students name on it and please bring it into school by Thursday, Dec. 1.  Students are to give the bag to the classroom teacher.

We are looking forward to sharing our work with you. Thank you for your cooperation and help with the costuming. If you have any concerns please email Mrs. Wilting at jwilting@gcspei.ca.
