Grade 5 parents,

This past week we began our unit of fractions in math. We finished off the week by adding and subtracting fractions with a common denominator. In language class, we continued our study of Number the Stars. Students wrote haiku and cinquain poems that aligned with themes from the novel. We have been able to complete a variety of assignments this quarter. It has been wonderful to see each student’s unique ability to accomplish the task at hand. I am very thankful for the diligence of each of your children. Take note below of important dates and assessment reminders.

Snacks

Please remember to send a healthy snack with your child each day. It is important that they are fueling their bodies with brain food. Please limit the amount of candy being sent to school.

Christmas Concert Attire

Please send your child’s Christmas outfit to school with them on Monday (November 9th).

Beaver Computing Challenge

On Tuesday, November 9th, Grades 5 and 6 students will have the opportunity to participate in the University of Waterloo’s Beaver Computing Challenge.  The challenge is a logic based test with a series of puzzle questions.  Students will be challenged to use their computational and logical thinking skills.  This 45 minute challenge will be scored and students will receive certificates if they achieve a certain score.
