Hello parents,

I am Mrs. Jennie Barton.  I am excited to be back in the classroom this year and to be able to get to know your children as we go through the rest of their grade two year.  This will be my 6th year teaching at GCS.  I started with a split grade 1-2 class and when the elementary was blessed with a new elementary wing I taught in the grade 1 class.  I love teaching and am very blessed to be able to be part of the ministry to the children of GCS.   I know we are going to have a great year together.  If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please message me at jbarton@gcspei.ca.

In order to get to know your child a bit more, we will be doing a “Paper Bag Auto-Biography.”  On Monday your child will come home with a paper bag and instructions on what to put in it.   Children will be asked to put in five items that are special to them.   They will be sharing these items with the class.  To help them prepare their presentation please have them fill out the attached response sheet.  We will begin presenting these in class on Monday, November 16th.  I look forward to hearing from each of the students to get to know them a little better.

Test Folder

Test folders with your child’s final assessments before the end of first quarter, were sent home on Friday. Please review each assessment, sign, and send it back to school on Monday.

My School Management

Each family has access to GCS’s online school management system (MSM) at gcs.myschoolmanagement.com.  Logging into it will allow parents to view upcoming assignments, tuition balances, student grades (in select courses in elementary), and view quarterly report cards this year.  If you do not know your login information, you can visit the previous link and click “having problems logging in”, enter your email address, and the system will send you instructions on resetting your password; this will work even if you have not logged into MSM before.  Report cards will be published ONLY in My School Management this year, so you must log in to your account in order to view them.   We suggest that you ensure that you can log in well before the report card day on November 19.  If you have any login problems, please email Mr. Ellis (jellis@gcspei.ca) for more assistance.

Parent-teacher Interviews

This Thursday, November 12th, from 10:30-12 Mrs. MacDougall will be available to meet over any concerns you may have as we enter into the second quarter of grade two. She will not be able to discuss report cards as they will not be sent home till the following week. If you have anything that you would like to discuss, please email her at cmacdougall@gcspei.ca with two potential times that you are able to meet. Mrs. MacDougall will confirm which time is available.  Only one parent is recommended to attend and children are not permitted.

Costumes for the Christmas Presentation – November 16

All students in grades 1-6 will need some type of clothing to complete their costume for filming.  The grade two class will need to have modern day fancy Christmas dress clothes. These items do not have to be new, but only festive. We are asking that the students wear a combination of red, green, white. black, with silver or gold accessories. Please have your child bring these items to school for November 16. Please label each item so it can be returned to you. If you have any questions or concerns please email jwilting@gcspei.ca. Thanks!

This Week in Grade Two

Language: Students will learn what a comma is and how to use it in a list.

Math: Students will begin the 10 addition family and how to measure a line in CM.

Social Studies: We will be learning about Remembrance Day and watching an online Remembrance Day Service.

Tests and Quizzes this Week

There will be no tests this week. We will begin spelling list # 7 on November 9th.  Because we have a very short week, we will not be testing on list #7 until Thursday, November 19th.

Have a great weekend!  I am looking forward to starting on Monday.
