Dear Grade 3 families,

This has certainly been a week for the history books, hasn’t it?! I have been praying for each of your families throughout the hurricane and during the week as we all try to process what has happened and deal with the aftermath of it all. Rest assured that we are going to ease into this return very gently!

Cancelled PD Day

As stated in a recent email, this Friday’s scheduled PD Day has been cancelled. Therefore, October 7th will now be a regular school day.

Library

We haven’t had school on a Monday since Sept.12th, goodness, me! The students will finally be able to return their library books and choose new ones with Mrs. Biech! That being said, if your child still has a library book at home, please be sure to send it to school tomorrow.

Bible Verse

Our class will be having their first Bible verse quiz this Thursday, Oct. 6th. It is this year’s theme verse, and is very fitting after the past week:

Romans 15:13 (NIV)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Spelling this Week

We will be resuming our study of List 3, which was introduced on the last day we were in school. The quiz will be on Friday.

Community Outreach Project

Our Grade 3 class will be collecting new toys/games for the Play Room in the Pediatric Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We will be collecting all this week, so please send in anything that you would like to donate by Friday (the earlier, the better). Let’s bless our community!!

Dressing for the Weather — a Continuing Reminder

Please be sure to check the weather forecast for the day and have your child dressed ready for the varying temperatures. Keep in mind that morning recesses are often much chillier than in the afternoon. Please do not assume that we will stay inside — if it isn’t raining, we go out.

Picture Day

This Thursday, October 6th, GCS is scheduled to have our Fall Picture Day. It’s time to practice those smiles!

Lunches

When packing your child’s lunch bag, please remember to add whatever utensils he or she will need as well. Supplies are limited at school.

Agendas and Reading Logs

Students are writing their homework on the first school day of the week. Reading logs should be completed every day that there is homework (not over the weekend). Completing the reading log is considered as homework.

Upcoming Assessments

Thursday, October 6th – Math Quiz #1
Friday, October 7th – Spelling Quiz 3

Important Dates:

Thursday, October 6th – School Picture Day
Monday, October 10th – Thanksgiving (NO SCHOOL)

I am so looking forward to seeing all the students tomorrow!
