Hello Parents,

It is hard to believe that it is the middle of October already! Please take note of the following announcements:

Science and Technology Week – October 17-21

It’s that time of year again when staff and students of GCS celebrate our Creator and the wonder of science! We have lots of activities planned for next week, including a chat with Jay Scotland, a Period Table cookie sale, and a digital art activity. Please note that Thursday, October 20 is Dress like a STEM Professional Day (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). That means that your child can come to school dressed as a person in any occupation that would use these disciplines. It is sure to be a fun-filled week of learning!

Community Outreach Project – Planting Seeds of Kindness

Thank you for your donations to our Community Outreach Project.  We have collected $65 to buy a coffee card for the staff, as well as a variety of teas and sweet treats for the staff at Geneva Villa.  Our class will deliver that basket to the staff on Tuesday, October 25th.  While we are there, we will also take the opportunity to read and visit with the residents.  This is a great opportunity to serve both the staff and residents at Geneva Villa.  It is our hope we can visit a few times throughout this year.  Please check your child’s agenda by the middle of the week for more details and a permission slip.

Blue Folder

On Friday, a number of work pages were sent home in your child’s blue folder.  Please ensure that you are checking this folder each night and removing any sheets that are on the left hand side of the folder.

Spelling:

Grade one will  practice list #2 again this week, and review the two vowel rule to help them with this list.   There are a couple of tricky spelling patterns which we will review in class this week.   Grade two will continue through their list and begin list # 5 this week.

Christmas Concert Preparations (A Word From Mrs. Wilting)

Dear Parents,

We are very excited to announce that we are in the beginning stages of preparing our annual Christmas presentation. The elementary students have been reading through scripts and learning songs in class the last few weeks. This year we will be presenting “Christmas at Bethlehem Gulch” a children’s musical with a western feel about the coming of the Saviour written by Pam Andrews.

We are anticipating a live, in-house, concert as we have done in years past. The musical has an “Old West” theme and we will need a few items brought in for concert dress. All students are required to bring in a pair of dark or light jeans and a multi-coloured plaid shirt. If students have items such as western vests, chaps, boots, kerchiefs, or cowboy hats please add them as they may be used for the main cast. Please refrain from bringing in holsters or plastic guns. Place items in a bag labeled with your students name on it and please bring it into school by Thursday, Dec. 1.  Students are to give the bag to the classroom teacher.

We are looking forward to sharing our work with you. Thank you for your cooperation and help with the costuming. If you have any concerns please email me at jwilting@gcspei.ca.
