Thank you all for your donations of sleepers and hats for the newborns on Unit 4 at the QEH. Having spend a few extra days on the unit when my son was born, I know how much they will appreciate this. Please take note of the following items that relate to our grade two class this week:
This week in Grade Two:
Math: Students will continue to review addition facts within ten. We will practice counting money (5 cents, 10 cents, $5, and $10) and begin to combine coins when counting. We will also begin to review subtraction this week.
Language Arts: We continue to review phonics chart 6 and will begin chart 7 this week. Last week we began learning about the two parts of a sentence (subject and predicate). This week we will begin to learn about nouns and verbs.
Social Studies: Students will continue their trip across Canada to review the geographical location of each province, and to review the main symbols of each province. This week we will be “travelling” to Central Canada.
Our school day begins (i.e. lessons start) at 8:45. The students are welcomed into the school at 8:35. As students enter the classroom, they have the opportunity to organize themselves, and prepare to start their day of learning. It is very important for your child to arrive on time. Arriving at or after 8:45 means that your child is missing the beginning of their first lesson. As the weeks have passed, more and more students are arriving late. Please make every effort to set your child up for success by dropping him/her child off on time.
Cheer and Dance Camp
On October 13th, Cheer and Dance Camp will begin at GCS. The camp will take place on Wednesdays from 2:45-4. Students will learn a variety of skills related to dance and cheer technique. The camp will run for 8 weeks and will finish on December 1st. The fee for this camp is $30. You may e-transfer this amount to firstname.lastname@example.org. In the comments, please indicate your child’s name and that it is to be allocated to the dance and cheer camp. If you have any questions, please email Chloe MacDougall at email@example.com.
