Dear Parents,
What a blessing to finally have a full week of school together. Our class earned themselves a bubble party near the end of the week for following school routines so well. We look forward to the Terry Fox Run on Wednesday (details below). This week students will be learning new phonics blends and special sounds, colour words, and will be introduced to ordinal numbers, basic subtraction, and comparing numbers to identify the greatest and the least.
Homework: This week students will have a penmanship page, sight words (colour words) page, and a spelling list. Students are encouraged to continue having parents sign their Super Reader Bookmarks every day they practice reading for 5 minutes or more. Homework is due on Friday.
Tests: This week we will have our first spelling, phonics and math tests. This week’s spelling lists will go home on Monday and the test will be on Friday. The first test is usually relatively easy for students, but they increase in difficulty quickly. Most students will need to spend some time studying these each night as the difficulty increases. Going forward new spelling lists will be sent home the Friday before the test (allowing a full week to practice at home before the test). We will have a math test on Tuesday and a Phonics test on Wednesday on what we have learned in class.
Library: Just a reminder that our library day is Tuesday. Please return all library books by Tuesday so students may take out new books.
Terry Fox Run: On Wednesday, September 29, Grace Christian School will participate in its twenty-first annual Terry Fox School Run. In their respective cohorts at scheduled times, students will run, jog or walk laps of the school soccer field in tribute to Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.
Students will not be canvassing for pledges but donations will be gratefully accepted beginning Sept. 23rd until Sept. 29th by homeroom teachers or through e-transfer. To electronically donate, use the email tuition@gcspei.ca with Terry Fox in the subject line and the student’s name in the message.
All funds received will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation to assist in the ongoing fight against cancer.
