Week of Sept. 30th in Grade One

This week Grade 1 students will continue learning about rhyming words as we enjoy many of the stories of Dr. Seuss. The sight words of the week are colour words: red, blue, purple, yellow, and brown. Please take time to work on these sight words and Bible Verse 1 at home. We began to learn more about lions during our Genius Hour last week. If you have any books or other resources about lions that you’d like to share with the class feel free to bring them in on Friday. Library is on Tuesday for Grade 1 so please help students remember to bring their books back to school for that day.

Other Reminders:

Cool Days & Warmer Clothing:

Please remember that as the cooler days of autumn arrive, students should come prepared with a light coat or sweater for outdoors. Students may also wish to have a sweater for class, as jackets are not permitted inside the classroom.

Elementary Cross-Country Event:

Students in grades 3-6 will be participating in an upcoming Cross Country Meet on Monday, October

7th. We welcome parents to join us in cheering on our students as they compete. Grades 3-4 will run

the 1.5 km race while grades 5-6 will run 2 km. Students are asked to come prepared with running

shoes, a GCS T-shirt, layers of clothing (in case it is cold), and sunscreen (in case it is hot!). Also, students

should pack a healthy snack and water bottle. We will be leaving the school at 9 AM and travelling by

bus to the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall. Some parent volunteers would be helpful as we will

not all fit on the bus. We will return to school by noon.

Additional information will be sent home with your child next week in the form of a permission slip.

Please return the form to your child’s homeroom teacher.

PD Day- No Classes

As important as it is for your children to be learning and growing academically, so to is the case for us
