The weeks are just flying by, aren’t they?  In just a few short weeks we will reach the end of First Quarter!

Over the past few weeks, our class has been learning about where we are in the world.  We have been learning about maps and what they can be used for, as well as what sort of information we can gather from them.  We have combined our Social Studies lessons with Digital Literacy lessons by using Google Earth as a tool for studying what mountains, bodies of water, forests, deserts, and plains look like from above.  We will begin our Social Studies Map Project this week, and we will be working on it for the next 3 weeks.  I have encouraged the students to ask for permission to use Google Earth at home as well, as this will help them get ideas for creating their own maps.  I am really looking forward to seeing what our class creates!

ACSI Convention – No School

Each member of the GCS team is committed to professional excellence and seeks to improve their teaching skills through professional development and the implementation of 21stcentury pedagogy.  We are thankful for the opportunity to participate in the ACSI Teacher’s Conference in Moncton this coming Thursday and Friday.  There will be no classes for students on those days.

Operation Christmas Child

Did you see our Christmas Tree? It is that time of year again at GCS, the Christmas shoe box time of year!

The GCS students are hearing stories about how God is using the simple gift of a shoe box to impact other kids around the world. We are looking forward to blessing thousands of children around the world with shoe boxes and the gospel of Jesus Christ.   All of our shoe boxes are going to the Ukraine this year ~ this is a place that has a cold climate.

Keep in mind that all shoe boxes need to be back to GCS by Weds. 11/14. We also need to make sure that we add $10 to each box to help with the cost of shipping, if you can.

Need ideas for your kids to pack?  Here is the link of the top 100 things to put in a shoe-box. https: //www.samaritanspurse.ca/suggested-gifts/

Dressing for the Weather

We have had some cold, wet, windy days of late!  It is now time to pack those extra items in your child’s school bag.

  • Extra socks
  • Mitts
  • Splash pants or a change of pants
  • Warm jacket or coat
  • A hat and scarf/neck warmer aren’t a bad idea, too!
