And here we are! One month left of school!

Dress Code Reminder

The flowers are growing fast and so are your children. In fact, students may be growing out of their clothing that fit them last fall! Thank you, parents, for working with us in dressing your children appropriately for school. With the change in seasons, we wish to provide you with this reminder.

As stated in the GCS Handbook the school’s overall dress code standard is modest, clean, neat, and appropriate. Shorts and skirts must not be shorter than just above the knee, which is typically to the tips of the fingers on most children. Girls are permitted to wear sleeveless shirts as long as the straps are wider than three finger widths (please no shirts with thin spaghetti straps). Clothing with a rebellious or negative message are considered dress code violations.

All kindergarten and elementary students must have a second pair of shoes to be worn inside. According to provincial regulations, kindergarten and elementary students are required to wear socks at all times while at school. Sandals are not permitted for this reason.

We are thrilled to see our elementary students wearing GCS apparel on a daily basis. We are even more excited when we see our parents embracing their GCS pride and purchasing clothes for themselves. For those wishing to purchase GCS apparel, please visit our online clothing store at: http://gracecs.entripyshops.com/. New items are being added regularly.

Thanks again for partnering with us. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Jamaica Chapel Service

Recently 8 of our Gr. 11 and 5 of our Gr. 12 students had the opportunity to minister and to be ministered to in Hanover, Jamaica. The students are very thankful to have had this opportunity and look forward to sharing about their time in Jamaica.  Please feel welcome to the Jamaica Testimonial Chapel on Tuesday, May 29th at 9 AM as each team member shares their story of how they were impacted by this experience.

ASCI Elementary Track Meet

This Wednesday, all elementary students in grades 3-6 will attend the annual ACSI Elementary Track Meet at UPEI.  Many of our students will be competing in various track events, however all students are encouraged to join us in cheering on their classmates.  Students are asked to come dressed in appropriate running apparel and footwear – including a GCS t-shirt in any of our school colors.  They should also be prepared with their snacks, lunches, and a full water bottle. Students will be leaving the school at 9 AM to travel by bus to UPEI.  Staff and students will return to school by 3:00 PM.  Parents are also welcome to attend this event.

ESL Living Wax Museum

The ESL students have been working hard on their presentations for the Living Wax Museum. Presentations to the public will be from 2:00 – 2:45 on Friday, June 1, with an awards ceremony at 2:45. This event will be live streamed for friends and family living around the world. Parents of ESL students, please also note that the last day for afterschool ESL tutoring is June 1.

Financial Aid

As our school continues to grow, it is our desire that all families who are part of GCS have the opportunity to continue to have their children attend the school.  Financial aid is available for families that are enrolled for the 2018-19 school year.  Applications for financial aid are available on the school website (https://www.gcspei.ca/wpcontent/uploads/2017/08/scholarship_application.pdf) or from the school office. Financial aid is provided on a yearly application basis and application forms must be turned in to the school office by Friday, June 8.  If you have any questions about financial aid, please contact Mr. Biech (principal@gcspei.ca or 902-628-1668).

GCS Golf Tournament

The tournament will take place on Saturday, June 2nd at the Clyde River Golf & Country Club. Registration and sign in will be between 7:00 AM – 7:45 AM, and the Shotgun start at 8 AM. The entry fee is $100.00 per person OR $400.00 per team (4 golfers per team). Students under the age of 18 can enter for a fee of $75. Heads-Up: Year-end Trip to Emmanuel Bible Camp

On Thursday, June 14th, students in grades 1-6 will be travelling by bus to Emmanuel Bible Camp for their year-end trip. They will enjoy a variety of camp activities such as pellet range, archery, rock wall climbing, sports, crafts, camp-wide games, swimming and canoeing (water sports will be only for students in grades 3-6). Students should pack a lunch that does not need to be heated. Also, they should come prepared with bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, layered clothing (in case it becomes cold), swim wear (for students grades 3-6), and sneakers. Students also wishing to purchase a small treat from the tuck shop, should bring their own money.  Items such as chocolate bars, ice cream, chips, candy, juice, etc are $1.50 each.

The bus will be leaving at 9:00, so please be at school on time. Students are asked to bring $2.00 to cover the cost of the bus. If you are interested in chaperoning, or have any questions, please feel free to contact me. This should be a great time to relax and have fun in the great outdoors!
