Hello Families of GCS Kindergarten Students
I Hope you enjoyed the Arctic Unit Lap Book that went home recently. The children enjoyed learning about several different creatures that live up north in Canada. We have now begun investigating about what it will take to have a fish live and thrive in our classroom.
Reading
Many of your children are asking to read to me daily. I could not be more pleased for them. To see their faces, light up and say, “This is easy Mrs. Perry!” Or, “Can I get a new book today Mrs. Perry?” thrills me to no end. I told the children that I have a friend visiting me from Ontario and we have been friends since we were about their age, and we went to a book store and each bought a book. The children were so surprised that we still read as a grown up! That gave Mrs. Squires and I a good laugh!
Skating Days
Throughout the month of March, elementary students will have the opportunity to participate in skating days! This year, we will be traveling to the APM Center in Cornwall on three separate dates: March 1, 8, and 16. Skate times are scheduled for 1:30-2:30. Students are required to have skates, mittens, and a helmet in order to participate.
Please be on the lookout for a permission form being sent home early this week with additional details. Students who do not wish to participate in these skating days are asked to be picked up at the school at 12:15 on these dates.
Olympic Reading Challenge
The Olympic Reading Challenge is still going on for elementary students. I encourage all students to keep going with this challenge and see what they can accomplish in the next several days. Reading Forms are due back on February 26 and prizes will be awarded February 28.
